Project for Walking

To provide support for walking environment assessment and for related policies and studies

The project to provide support for walking environment assessment is aimed to support both theoretically and practically for the establishment and implementation of public policies geared towards a better environment for walking in our cities. The objective of the project is to present pedestrian-oriented principles, standards and improvements in the planning, design and policies on architectural and urban spaces in general, and to explore concrete implementation strategies to realize them. Through these efforts, we pursue to expand and establish walking policies as early as possible, and enhance the publicness, rationality and effectiveness.

Main Project Contents

  • Research on assessment : Studies on theoretical criteria, principles and methodologies on walking environment

    - To define a good walking environment, accordingly drawing up assessment criteria, to conduct research, and to develop assessment methodologies

  • Research on behaviors : Expansive research and analysis on environmental and behavioral characteristics

    - To provide the practical grounds for planning, design and policies through building empirical data

  • Policy studies : Monitoring and system analysis on activities for policy support, and on current status of policy promotion

    - To shape up policy directions and tools in order to realize a good walking environment

  • Case studies : Analysis of goals and strategies, planning methodologies and processes based on actual cases

    - To explore implications considering the locational context and issues
